On 8 September 2026, the Aberdeen University Centre for Energy Law (AUCEL) hosted a hybrid Research Exchange with a visiting delegation from Japan, led by Professor Takeshi Shimamura of Kyoto University, and additional participants joining online. The multidisciplinary delegation brought together expertise in law, policy science, economics, agriculture and electrical engineering to examine Japanese energy law and policy in comparison with Scotland, with a particular focus on energy governance and environmental protection.
