Lots of tutorials Small group in Inverness
All the doctors and nurses were very helpful and kind, the first thing we had was as a group aswell which was nice.

Paitents were all very friendly. Ed was particularly good as it allowed you to see patients on your own before presenting to a doctor.
All patients I came across were more than happy for me to be around during their care, or assist in their care, for the benefit of my learning - which I really appreciated, and always thanked them for

Urology clinic. Derek was very good at explaining things GI ward several very friendly consultants who were happy to teach ITU very intresting but quite niche
All of the varied specialities were structured quite well, except for General Surgery. I kept myself busy and asked for good places to be or good things to see or do (and got lots of good experience), but there was no prompt direction for any of that. e.g. with Orthopaedics, there was a timetable with different clinics etc.; Gen Surg had none of that. I found sit-in clinics quite valuable too for my learning.
Please suggest any improvements to this educational experience.

Throughout the block I did not see a single clinical educator on the wards. Nor did any of my peers. I feel they could be useful in Inverness to help give feedback on exams and procedures. This happens in Aberdeen so I don’t understand why it can’t and does not happen in Inverness. I also feel the block as a whole needs a more detailed time table of when to be on the wards ect. I feel like I missed learning opportunities as I did not know certain things were happening and it was difficult to know what to prioritise

Derek. Urology specialist nurse practitioner. He was really enfusiastic about teaching. Very friendly and able to ask questions too.
Dr S.J. Martin, General Surgery Trainee, Raigmore Hospital - he really took the time to benefit my learning, asking the full surgical team if they could extend time ever so slightly (a few minutes) to teach me suturing on a real patient at the end of a procedure, reassuring me the full way through, and giving me quite a confidence boost - then also took me 1 to 1 into his office, and taught me how to hand tie suture, with such patience, and then proudly (as he should) had me demonstrate his successful teaching to his senior. I felt very seen and included, and it was really appreciated; his name has stuck with me because of that.
