Course Overview

This module supports childhood practitioners to critically evaluate how inclusive their current practices and environments are, identifying ways to strengthen children’s sense of belonging and participation. Through reflective practice and engagement with key policy and research, students will explore how inclusive, rights‑based approaches can be embedded in daily interactions, routines, and learning spaces. As part of the course, each practitioner will consider inclusive approaches within their setting and reflect upon aspects to enhance equity and accessibility. The module aims to build confidence, deepen understanding of inclusive pedagogy, and empower practitioners to create environments where all children can thrive.

Course Description

This course enables practitioners to deepen their understanding of inclusive pedagogy within early learning and childcare settings. Students will critically reflect on how their current practices, environments, and interactions support equitable participation and belonging for all children. Using contemporary policy, research, and guidance as a foundation, learners will explore ways to reduce barriers, enhance accessibility, and create nurturing, rights‑based learning environments.

As part of the course, each student will implement a small, purposeful change within their setting to strengthen inclusion. Assessment focuses on the student’s reflective journey, the wider strategies which support inclusion within their settings and considerations for their own practice moving forward. By the end of the course, practitioners will be better equipped to apply inclusive approaches that promote positive outcomes for every child.
