PY3803: EPITHELIAL PHYSIOLOGY

This advanced course explores epithelial physiology in normal gastrointestinal, renal and respiratory function.
Students will examine how epithelial cells regulate the movement of ions, nutrients and water, and how disruption contributes to diseases such as infectious diarrhoea and cystic fibrosis.
Students will develop an understanding of epithelial transport mechanisms and the experimental approaches used to study them.
The course includes a research-led wet-lab practical supported by workshops, data analysis guidance and a post-practical seminar.
Students will develop technical, scientific, analytical, communication, teamwork and employability skills through a scientific paper-style lab report and group Research Symposium.
