Duration: 12 months full-time or 24 months part-time. Aims: Students will study the history of Christian doctrine in the modern era, examine the overall structure of Systematic Theology and explore one key doctrinal theme in detail. There is also an opportunity for elective study in the fields of biblical, historical and practical theology. Content: The components of the degree are: Two courses required of all those pursuing taught Masters degrees in Divinity and Religious Studies: DR 5062 Method in Theology (10 credit points) DR 5063 Dissertation Colloquium (10 credit points) Three core courses: DR 5078/DR 5578 Principles of Systematic Theology (20 credit points) DR 5083/DR 5583 Systematic Theology Since the Enlightenment (20 credit points) DR 5082/DR 5582 The Doctrine of the Trinity (20 credit points) Or DR 5084/DR 5584 God, Christ and Salvation (20 credit points) Two further electives (20 credit points each) which may be taken from the courses offered in the MTh programmes in Biblical Theology, Catholic Studies, Church History, Practical Theology & Ethics, Jewish Studies, and Theology and Religious Studies. DR 5516 Dissertation (60 credit points) of approximately 15,000 words on a topic related to the degree Students are also expected to attend and participate in one of the weekly postgraduate seminars in Theology which run during the academic term. Assessment: Students must acquire 180 credit points over the course of the year (120 for courses + 60 for dissertation). Assessment is by course work, by written examination, or by a combination of these, as prescribed for each course. Appropriate supervision is arranged for the dissertation. The degree of MTh shall not be awarded to candidates who fail to complete the dissertation at an appropriate standard, irrespective of their performance in other courses.
