INTERNATIONAL LAW AND GLOBALISATION 59LSIGD1 Aims: The programme replaces part of the existing International Law (Public and Private) LLM to reflect both established areas of recognised international competence in the field and to give space for several newly appointed staff. The aim is to provide an interdisciplinary problem oriented approach to legal theory and legal technique which can have appeal both to lawyers and non-lawyers concerned about issues of governance beyond the power of the individual state to resolve. There are no compulsory courses. However, students are strongly advised to take a mix of courses to ensure that they understand both the technical detail of existing legal rules and the interdisciplinary skills required to identify and resolve new and remaining problems of global governance in a world where states are not the exclusive managers of international society, while, at the same time, the prospect of world government remains remote. The aim of the programme is for the students to become skilled in managing the open spaces of unregulated international relations.
