For entry to the Year 2 candidates must have a pass in all courses of the Year 1. For entry to Year 3 candidates must have a pass in all courses from Years 1 and 2. Duration: The total study time for the complete programme shall be not less than three academic years and not more than six academic years. The programme is entirely studies by distance learning, with delivery by the internet, via the UniversityТs website. Content: The aims of the programme are to provide education and training at postgraduate level for students employed, or who wish to be employed, in the Oil and Gas industry as Structural Engineers. It aims to improve the work performance of the students by increasing their knowledge and understanding of the many topics that make up Structural Engineering in this industrial sector. There are no optional courses on the programme. Candidates shall be required to do the following courses: Year 1 EG 5069 Conceptual Design of Topside Modules (15 credit points) EG 5070 Design of Connections (15 credit points) EG 5559 Structural Dynamics (15 credit points) EG 5567 Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics (15 credit points) Year 2 EG 50XX Design of Structural Members (15 credit points) EG 50XX Brownfield Engineering (15 credit points) EG 55XX Blast and Fire Engineering (15 credit points) EG 55XX Finite Element Methods (15 credit points) Year 3 EG 50XX Conceptual Design of Jackets and Subsea Structures (15 credit points) EG 50XX Design of Stiffened Plates (15 credit points) EG 55XX Re-assessment of Existing Structures by Structural Reliability Analysis (15 credit points) EG 55XX Design of Petrochemical Structures (15 credit points) Assessment: By a combination of written examination and course work, as prescribed for each course. Three possible awards can be achieved on this programme. The Certificate in Oil and Gas Structural Engineering shall be awarded to those candidates who achieve at least 60 credit points but less than 120 credit points on the programme. The Diploma in Oil and Gas Structural Engineering shall be awarded to candidates who achieve at least 120 credit points but less than 180. The MSc in Oil and Gas Structural Engineering shall be awarded to candidates who meet the credit point criteria in the following situations: (a) Students who have chosen to enrol on less than the full programme, perhaps as CPD training. (b) Students who may have embarked on the full programme but who wish to leave it before completing the MSc. (c) Students who are not permitted to progress from one year to the next.
