Duration: 12 months full-time or 24 months part-time (MSc); 9 months full-time or 18 months part-time (PgDip). Aim: To equip students for careers in the development, use and knowledge of new and current drugs. To achieve this the programme will provide a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of drug discovery and development; mechanisms of drug action; preclinical and clinical trials; regulatory affairs and the Business of Science including entrepreneurship. Content: The programme of taught courses will comprise lectures, tutorials, practical classes and directed self-learning. The curriculum excludes biochemical and molecular aspects of drug action; drug transport, metabolism and excretion; toxicology; pharmacokinetics; statistics; computing studies; industrial aspects of drug development; therapeutics; therapeutic drug monitoring; the influence of disease on drug handling; drug-drug interactions; the design and conduct of volunteer and clinical trials; monitoring drug safety.
