Duration: 12 months full-time (MRes); 9 months full-time (PgDip); 4 months full time (PgCert). Content: The courses are drawn from across the School of Biological Sciences and are taught in a series of three or six week modules, together with instructions in related common skills. A number of courses that are core to other programmes can be selected for this programme. Students will undertake a 30 and a 60 credit project. During the instructional stage of the programme of courses, students will undertake the 30 credit project. This is expected to complement the taught material and be tailored towards personal interest. Following the instructional stage of the programme of courses, students may proceed to the individual research project (60 credits) if they have successfully passed all course assessments and project requirements. Both projects will culminate in the submission off a thesis in the format of a peer reviewed paper. Candidates must attend the following designated programme of courses unless they have previously passed courses deemed by the Programme Co-ordinator to be equivalent to one or more of the specified modules, in which case another course must be taken from those indicated. Stage 1 All candidates must take the following courses: EV 5005 Research Skills for Environmental Sciences (15 credit points) EV 5303 Environmental Microbiology & Biotechnology (15 credit points) In addition to the above courses, candidates must take courses to the value of 30 credit points from those listed below, in the context of timetable constraints: BI 5301 Environmental Pollution (15 credit points) PL 5001 Plant Ecology (15 credit points) PL 5303 Ecosystem Process (15 credit points) SS 5008 Global Soil Geography (15 credit points) Or as approved by the programme co-ordinator. Stage 2 All candidates must take the following courses: EV 5903 Literature Review in Environmental Sciences (3 credit points) SS 5904 Land Use and the Environment on Deeside (3 credit points) EV 5512 Environmental Science Research and Investigation (30 credit points) In addition to the above courses, candidates must take courses to the value of 30 credit points from the following list, in the context of timetable constraints: EV 5502 Spatial Information Analysis BI 5504 Foundations of Environmental Governance (7.5 credit points) EK 5404 Climate Change (7.5 credit points) SS 5500 Remediation Technology (15 credit points) EV 5800 Environmental Analysis (15 credit points) PL 5504 Biology and Ecology of Mycorrihizas (7.5 credit points) BI 5802 Ecological and Environmental Modelling (15 credits) BI XXXX Conservation in Practice (15 credit points) BI 5901 Research Project Planning (7.5 credit points) Or another appropriate course as approved by the programme co-ordinator. Only candidates who complete the above programme will be allowed to progress to the project stage. Candidates who fail to achieve the standard for progression to, or who elect not to proceed to, the final stage shall be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma if they have achieved the appropriate number of credits for that award. Stage 3 EV 5902 Project in Environmental Science (60 credit points) Assessment: By a combination of (1) written assignments and laboratory reports for taught each course, and (2) a dissertation (submitted in agreed manuscript format) covering both research projects. MRes candidates are usually requirted to attend an oral examination. The degree of MRes shall not be awarded to a candidate who fails to achieve a CAS mark of 9 or above in EV 5512 or EV 5902, irrespective of their performance in other courses. v< F <>)W`ae ./67^s BGdw|}~ h=hgtnh|h<h|OJQJh& h|OJQJh4mh|OJQJh|>*OJQJh|6OJQJh|OJQJ.Puv; < => 0gd| 08gd| Tgd| $ 0a$gd| 0gd|$ 0D%da$gd| 0D%dgd|mn()WX`afg /s gd| 0gd| 0gd|B~23wx|}~gd=gd| $ 0a$gd| 0gd| gd|21h:p[=.
