Content: The courses are drawn from across the School of Biological Sciences and are taught in a series of two or six week modules, together with instructions in related common skills. Students will undertake a 30 and a 60 credit project. At the end of the programme, students are required to have a total 180 credits to gain an MRes. During stage 2, students will undertake the 30 credit project. This is expected to complement the taught material and be tailored towards personal interest. Following the stages 1 and 2, students may proceed to the individual research project (60 credits) if they have successfully passed all course assessments and project requirements. Both projects will culminate in the submission off a thesis. Candidates must attend the following designated programme of courses unless they have previously passed courses deemed by the Programme Co-ordinator to be equivalent to one or more of the specified modules, in which case another course must be taken with approval from the Programme Co-ordinator. Candidates must take a minimum of 120 credits of courses from the compulsory and elective courses in stages 1 and 2. Stage 1 EV5006 Core Skills for Environmental Sciences (15 credit points) SS5008 Global Soil Geography (15 credit points) SS5305 Soils for Food Security (15 credit points) EV5403 Applications of GIS (7.5 credit points) Plus one from the following list: BI5301 Environmental Pollution (15 credit points) PL5303 Ecosystem Processes (15 credit points) Stage 2 SS5806 Land Use and the Environment on Deeside (7.5 credit points) SS5507 Soil Science Research and Investigation (30 credit points) Plus 15 credit points from the following list: EV5800 Environmental Analysis (15 credit points) SS5500 Remediation Technology (15 credit points) EK5804 Environmental Impact Assessment (15 credit points) EK5511 Catchment Management (15 credit points) BI5802 Ecological and Environmental Modelling (15 credit points) Only candidates who complete the above programme will be allowed to progress to the second project stage. Candidates who fail to achieve the standard for progression to, or who elect not to proceed to, the final stage shall be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma if they have achieved the appropriate number of credits for that award. Stage 3 SS5903 Project in Soil Science (60 credit points) Assessment: By a combination of (1) written assignments and laboratory reports for each taught course, and (2) dissertations covering both research projects. MRes candidates are usually required to attend an oral examination. The degree of MRes shall not be awarded to a candidate who fails to achieve a CGS mark of D3 or above in SS55077 or SS5903, irrespective of their performance in other courses. !Lhis/ 2 " F N ӳzk[L@h~ CJOJQJ^Jh h~ CJOJQJ^Jh hl>*CJOJQJ^Jh h=pyCJOJQJ^JhqhdyCJOJQJ^JhdyCJOJQJ^Jh3%hdyCJOJQJ^Jh hdyCJOJQJ^Jh hdy6CJOJQJ^Jh hl6CJOJQJ^Jh hlCJOJQJ^Jhv~5CJOJQJ^Jh h4&}5CJOJQJ^Jghi F G O P "#E 0Sd6gd;8 Sd6gd;8gddy 0gddy 0Sd6gddy 0Sd6gd;8 Sgd;8 !"#DEFx5:<deʾ֐{ocWMCMhdyCJOJQJh;8CJOJQJhdyCJOJQJ^Jh7 CJOJQJ^JhS3_CJOJQJ^J)h hl56>*CJOJQJ^JaJh=pyCJOJQJ^J$h hlCJOJQJ^JmH sH h h;8CJOJQJ^JhlCJOJQJ^Jh;8CJOJQJ^Jh hlCJOJQJ^Jh hemCJOJQJ^JhemCJOJQJ^JEFx5de0qr gddy Sgd!i Sgd;8 0Sd6gd;8 S8gd;8 0Sd6gd;8 Sd6gd;8 Sd6gd;8/0qrvw./9;٣͔tٲٲٲm hEuWh2h hdy6CJOJQJ^Jh hl>*CJOJQJ^Jh heNCJOJQJ^Jh3%hdyCJOJQJ^Jh hdyCJOJQJ^Jh!iCJOJQJ^JhlCJOJQJ^JhdyCJOJQJ^Jh hlCJOJQJ^JhviCJOJQJ^J 0d6gd=py 0Sd6gddy Sd6gd;8 0Sd6gd;821h:p[=.
