The HDR UK Scotland webinar programme will be continuing with our next webinar NHS Data: Case Studies in Development and Access.
NHS Data and its associated electronic health records are vital to the work of many health data researchers, but present many challenges in terms of accessibility, governance, and data linkage. This webinar will highlight three examples of innovative health data research using NHS data and local electronic health records. They will cover both how NHS Data has informed important research and how NHS datasets have been developed for access by researchers.
Agenda
14.00 Introduction from Chair – Dr Catalina Vallejos, HDR UK Scotland Coordinator
14.05 Will Ball, Robert Gordon University. In this presentation, Will Ball will present findings from a study which used linked electronic health records to examine trends in Emergency Department (ED) attendances for mental health complaints among adolescents. His team identified that a large proportion of adolescents whose first contact was in ED did not have previous treatment in CAMHS, but also that those with previous CAMHS treatment had a substantial increase in risk of ED-attendance. Many of these trends reinforce findings from previous analysis of the same population looking at routine MH-care.
14.30 Rosalyn Pearson & Craig Nicolson, University of Edinburgh. This presentation will showcase two new and complimentary data resources from critical care within NHS Lothian. These are research ready via application to the NHS Lothian Safe Haven (DataLoch) and are linkable with broader electronic health records. Together, the datasets combine to provide a powerful base for detailed analysis in critical care.
14.55 Kevin Blyth, University of Glasgow & Sandy Wier, Canon Medical Research Europe. This presentation will showcase the Living Laboratory Radiogenomics project. It will discuss:
- Aims of the database
- The process of collecting the data
- The challenges encountered
- How the database is hosted on a TRE
