The 51cg Foundation, encourages and facilitates donations to support education at the 51cg, and for its benefit, from graduates and supporters in the United States.

The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation (EIN# 52-1970587) dedicated to charitable and educational purposes. Donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

The Board of the Foundation ensures that it remains in full control of monies received, determining which projects are deserving of support, and ensuring that all funds granted for approved projects are used solely in furtherance of the Foundation's charitable and educational purposes.

Charitable Fundraising

The 51cg (University) engages in fundraising activities with the 51cg Development Trust SCIO (DT SCIO) for charitable purposes including the advancement of education, health, the arts, heritage and science, for the primary benefit of the University, its community and others. This notice explains how the University uses personal information we collect or receive when undertaking charitable fundraising with the DT SCIO. We process and share information about supporters and potential supporters of the University.

What information do we collect and process about you?

• Name and contact details
• Employment details
• Country of residence
• Notes about any donations that you make and your interactions with the University; this may include your relationships, employment, communications, opportunities for future fundraising
• Information about spouses where this information has been volunteered by you
• Information about donations made on fundraising platforms eg Just Giving
• Your bank details, information gathered for the purposes of Gift Aid (if applicable)
• Consent options, where you consent to receive emails from the University about our fundraising campaigns
• Information from the following sources where due diligence checks are undertaken in line with our Gift Acceptance Policy

  • LinkedIn
  • Third Party Services to conduct due diligence in line with our Gift Acceptance Policy

Why do we collect this information?

The University processes personal information about graduates and shares personal information with the DT SCIO in accordance with our legitimate interests. These interests are to raise funds to benefit the advancement of education, health, the arts, heritage and science, for the primary benefit of the University, its community and others.

The University processes personal information about donors for electronic direct marketing purposes on the lawful basis of consent.

The University processes personal information for direct marketing by post on the lawful basis of our legitimate interests.

Who might we share the information with?

The University shares information with the DT SCIO to enable them to fulfil their charitable purposes. This sharing may include the following categories of personal data:

• Name of donor
• Notes about any donations that you make and your interactions with the University; this may include your relationships, employment, communications, opportunities for future fundraising
• Country of residence
• Links to the University
• Assessment based on results of LinkedIn, public records and third-party where due diligence checks are undertaken in line with our Gift Acceptance Policy
• Value description of the donation

We may also share information with third-party fundraising consultancies. Your personal data may be used to inform recommendations for fundraising campaign strategies. This will include using data to identify individuals who are likely to engage with and donate to the University; specifically identifying trends and types of individuals, as well as identifying top donors.

We may share your name and postal address with a third-party mailing service for the purpose of sending you fundraising information, including impact reporting.

The third-party suppliers we use for IT and service delivery support also have access to your personal information in order to provide these services to the University.

We may disclose personal information to other recipients in exceptional circumstances or when required to do so by law.

We will transfer your personal information to countries and organisations outside the European Union where necessary. We have agreements in place with our suppliers to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.

How long do you keep information about me?

We retain your personal data in line with our data retention policies and for as long as it is relevant to our ongoing contact with you, or until you update your information.

We retain financial transaction information for at least seven years.

We retain gift information for as long as is reasonably required and for at least seven years to meet HMRC requirements.
