Ms. Schönberger will share her research into iconographical transformation processes.
Sarah-Allegra Schönberger is a Doctoral Assistant at the University of Vienna. She holds a B.A. in Japanese Studies (2010) and an M.A. in Religious Studies (2012). She is currently completing her doctoral research on iconographical transformation processes of the Buddhist guardian deity Vaiśravaṇa.
The talk will discuss the different ways in which various religions use (or sometimes: do not use) images; how these images are represented and interpreted; and examine the relation between the actual representation and the theme which it is supposed to represent.
