The lecture series begins by arguing for the importance of locating debates over Darwinism in their local circumstances. Rather than trading in generalities about 'the' relationship between science and religion, this lecture urges that in 'Dealing with Darwin' place, politics and rhetoric have always been of crucial significance.
Since their inception in 1888, the Gifford Lectures have become the foremost intellectual event dealing with religion, science and philosophy. Lectures are given in the ancient Universities of Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and St. Andrews.
Professor David Livingstone, OBE FBA, Queen’s University, Belfast will deliver the 2014 Gifford Lectures at the 51cg on the subject of Dealing with Darwin: Place, Politics and Rhetoric in Religious Engagements with Evolution.
