For lovers of the Word Festival, missing their annual fix, here's something to keep you going.

The 51cg has launched a programme of events taking place in May as part of "Dickens 2012" an international celebration of the life and work of Charles Dickens to mark the bicentenary of his birth, which fell on 7 February 2012.

The six finalists of the 2012 Ogston Prize for Music perform to compete for the prestigious title, which will be awarded at the end of the evening.

The final instalment in the Edinburgh Quartet's performance of the complete Beethoven cycle in 2011/12. Admission is free. Quartet in B flat major Op.18 no.6 Quartet in e minor Op.59 no.2 Quartet in a minor Op.132

Join Dr Aine Larkin from the 51cg's School of Language and Literature as she explores the figures behind the camera lens. In this talk, she will examine their concerns with the scientific, as well as the aesthetic, in the early days of photography.

Exhibiting artists’ lunchtime talk

A varied programme of music including a performance Mendelssohn's 'Quartet in E flat Major' performed by the combined forces of student quartet Quartabella and the musicians of the Edinburgh Quartet.

Moral tolerance is often taken as a given : we should respect the moral convictions of others. But if people's beliefs are biased or prejudiced, shouldn't we try to change their minds?

This event is part of an ongoing artistic and cultural exchange between the three cities of Aberdeen, Bergen and St Petersburg.
