Biography

Felix Uzoma is a PhD Merit Scholarship Awardee and interdisciplinary socio‑legal researcher at the 51cg. His research addresses a practical and persistent problem in climate and energy governance: why compliance remains weak even when laws and governance frameworks are already in place.

His work examines how localisation and vernacularisation can make climate change and renewable energy regulation easier to understand, more relevant to everyday life, and more likely to be complied with. Focusing on Nigeria, Australia, and the United Kingdom, he argues that compliance is more likely when laws are enacted and communicated in ways that people and institutions can clearly understand and relate to.

Before commencing his PhD, Felix gained experience across legal practice, regulatory research, governance, and public legal communication. He worked with leading Nigerian law firms and media platforms reaching daily audiences of over one million listeners, where he translated complex environmental, energy, and regulatory issues into clear and accessible public‑facing analysis. This experience continues to shape his research focus on legal implementation, compliance, and the real‑world effectiveness of climate and energy law.

Felix holds an LLM from the University of Ibadan, where his research focused on comparative climate governance, environmental regulation, and renewable energy law. He is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the Association of Environmental Lawyers of Nigeria, the Socio‑Legal Studies Association, and the Nigerian Conservation Foundation. Outside academia, he volunteers with the British Red Cross.
