Biography
I joined the 51cg in April 2023 as a Research Fellow in the School of Biological Sciences.
I graduated with my Bachelor of Science (BSc) from the 51cg in 2013 where I studied Geography. Throughout my time as an Undergraduate student I also developed skills in areas within Chemistry and Geology.
I then worked for six years at the James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen where I picked up an array of skills which allowed me to do my PhD in collaboration with Cranfield University. I graduated from Cranfield in 2019 with my PhD entitled "The Application of Digital Soil Mapping to improve the resolution of national soil properties across Great Britain".
Before coming back to the University, I have worked in a number of different areas acquiring skills which can be versatile in academia, commercial and governmental organisations.
My main strengths lie in general soil science knowledge, utilising Geographical Information System programmes (GIS), mathematical modelling techniques such as Boosted Regression Trees (BRTS) and statistical analyses.

Research Overview
My principal interests lie in soils-related research ranging from: how to maintain and secure healthy soils, how AI, machine learning and other GIS/Mapping software can help us better understand various global challenges and how soils policy can be developed and improved across local, national and global scales
Current Research
- CROSSROADS-SSA: Cataloguing and Rating of Sidelined Species for restoration of agriculturally degraded soils (November 2024 - present)
Conducting a systematic review of underutilised plants to examine their potential for improving soil health across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Dissemination of paper-based and electronic tools that will inform farmers and policy makers of benefits and dis-benefits of using plants to improve soil health in different locations.
