Biography
My research focuses on artificial intelligence, particularly neuro-symbolic AI, goal and plan recognition, automated planning, reinforcement learning, and trustworthy autonomous and multi-agent systems. I develop methods that combine data-driven learning with symbolic reasoning to help AI systems recognise intentions, reason under uncertainty, and behave more reliably in complex environments.
My research has been published at leading international AI venues, including AAAI, IJCAI, AAMAS, ECAI. My contributions include reinforcement-learning and neuro-symbolic approaches to goal recognition, robust and real-time intention recognition, and applications of automated planning to data-pipeline optimisation. My recent work also explores trustworthy agentic AI, multi-agent coordination, autonomous driving, and cybersecurity.
At Aberdeen, I teach and coordinate courses in knowledge representation, and software engineering. I supervise MSc and PhD research, and serve as Computing Science Student Engagement Officer. I serve as Student Engagement Officer for Computing Science, supporting the identification and engagement of students who may require additional assistance. I am also a member of Agents at Aberdeen, the University’s research group focused on autonomous agents, multi-agent systems, automated planning, and related areas of artificial intelligence.

Research Overview
My research lies mainly on goal and plan recognition, neuro-symbolic AI, automated planning, reinforcement learning, and multi-agent systems. My current work investigates tentative landmarks learned from data for early and interpretable outcome recognitiom, counterfactual planning in adversarial environments, and goal-recognition and reinforcement-learning methods for detecting and mitigating attacks in post-quantum-cryptography-aware blockchain systems. More broadly, I am interested in developing autonomous systems that can recognise intentions, reason under uncertainty, coordinate effectively, and provide reliable and trustworthy behaviour.
I lead an emerging research programme in neuro-symbolic goal recognition and trustworthy agentic AI at the 51cg. I co-supervise a PhD researcher, supervise MSc research projects, lead international collaborations, and serve as a research-theme lead on a major cross-institutional grant proposal. I also lead implementation and experimentation within a defence-focused funding proposal and previously coordinated three AI research teams in industry.
