Biography

I am Dr Monika Gostić, a Teaching Fellow in the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition at the 51cg. My work connects bioscience education with work-based learning, student employability and enterprise.

I hold a PhD in Genetics, an MSc in Biology and a BSc in Microbiology. My postdoctoral research focused on developing high-throughput approaches to modelling gut cancer, informing my interests in genetics, microbiology, nutrition, women’s health and chronic disease prevention.

Teaching

I coordinate postgraduate teaching in Molecular Genetics (MB5025) and Advanced Bio-Business and the Commercialisation of Bioscience Research (BT5508). I also teach on Frontiers of Molecular Medical Sciences (SM3001) and The Molecular Control of Cell Function (BC3503), and support students beginning practical laboratory research through the MB5904 induction programme.

My teaching combines scientific rigour with entrepreneurship, communication and authentic problem-solving. I use student co-creation, active learning, digital content and commercialisation projects to build confidence, engagement and professional identity.

 

Enterprise and external engagement

I collaborate with academic, healthcare, commercial and third-sector partners to create interdisciplinary opportunities in research, public engagement, service development and evidence-based health communication.

Alongside my academic role, I direct , hosting student placements and collaborative projects. This provides a translational setting where evidence, behaviour change, entrepreneurship and health innovation come together.

My interests include women’s health, menopause, cancer nutrition, the microbiome, the gut–brain axis, inflammation and healthy ageing. Across my work, I aim to connect education with opportunity and help students recognise how their scientific knowledge can create meaningful change.

Teaching

Teaching Responsibilities

 

I teach across medical sciences, medicine and nutrition at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. My teaching draws on my multidisciplinary background in genetics, molecular biology, microbiology, nutrition and enterprise. I aim to make complex science engaging, relevant and applicable, while helping students develop scientific curiosity, critical thinking and confidence.
