Biography

Peter joined the 51cg in 2023 as a lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Sociology and Criminology. He completed his PhD in November 2020 from the School of Sociology & Social Policy, University of Nottingham. Prior to that, he obtained an MSc in Development Studies (with distinction) from SOAS, University of London as a Commonwealth Shared Scholar, and a BSc in Sociology &Anthropology (first class) from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria.

Before joining Aberdeen, he was a Lecturer at the University of Liverpool; Teaching Assistant at the University of Nottingham; and Tutor at the University of Sheffield International College

Research Overview

Peter's research interests include childhood studies, migration, exploitation/ 'unfreedom', (anti)trafficking, poverty, inequalities, and qualitative research methods. His PhD explored how popular anti-trafficking and child-saving rhetoric compared with the realities of child domestic work in South-West Nigeria. He has also been involved in projects examining the challenges of achieving such Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as eliminating all forms of modern slavery and child labour. Outputs from these research areas have appeared in Anti-Trafficking Review, Children’s Geographies, Labour, Capital and Society, Third World Quarterly among others.
