Our vision

At the Aberdeen Centre for Research Excellence in Musculoskeletal Health (ABC-MSK), our vision is to facilitate innovative interdisciplinary clinical, research and training activities at the 51cg and NHS Grampian. Arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions represent an enormous socio-economic burden, and they are set to rise with the ageing population.

We seek to promote world-class research to improve diagnosis, prevention and treatment for patients with arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions, and inform the provision of evidence-based high-quality care.

Who we are

ABC-MSK is led by Director Rosemary Hollick and Deputy Director Luke Farrow, and encompasses a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, academics, data scientists and patient partners working together to achieve our vision.

Dr Rosemary Hollick

Dr Hollick is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at 51cg, and Consultant Rheumatologist at NHS Grampian.

Deputy Centre Director

Mr Luke Farrow

Luke is a Speciality Trainee in Trauma & Orthopaedics at NHS Grampian and SCREDS Clinical Lecturer at 51cg.

Our collaborations

The Foresterhill Health Campus is one of the largest hospitals in Europe, and is also home to the Medical and Dental Schools and Biomedical Research Institutes of the 51cg.

Patients in NHS Grampian benefit from the close working relationship between all specialties involved in the care of musculoskeletal conditions, including the Department of Rheumatology and the Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery.
