- Political economy of the natural environment

- Sustainability transitions in tourism

Post-communist transformations in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE):

- Political, economic and social aspects of post-communist transformations in CEE

- The emerging variety of post-communist capitalisms in CEE and their path-dependent nature

- The processes of (uneven) economic development in CEE after 1989

- The role of tourism in fostering post-communist transformations and economic development in CEE
