Our Research

The unit has established an international reputation in the field of evidence synthesis, guideline development, clinical trials and cancer survivorship within Urology.

It has forged strong collaborations and links, locally with the Health Services Research Unit (HSRU), Centre for Healthcare Randomised TrialsTrials Unit (CHaRT) (CHaRT) and the Health Economics Research Unit (HERU), nationally with the (BAUS) and cancer charities, and internationally with the and the .

Our focus is on three major themes:

  • Academic research encompassing quantitative and qualitative methodology;
  • Training and education;
  • Patient-oriented programmes.

These collaborations have secured funding for the 51cg through numerous multicentre and international studies totalling more than £9 million.

Research Methodologies

Our research methodologies include the following:

  • Systematic reviews and other review methodologies, for example CIS
  • High quality observational studies (qualitative and quantitative methodologies)
  • Clinical trials
  • Economic evaluations

Research Aims

Through our research we aim for the following:

  • To establish Aberdeen as a centre for excellence
  • To secure research income
  • To Produce research publications ; future REF cycle
  • Build national and international reputation
  • Foster national and international collaboration within the research community, urology community, charitable sector and global health arena
