Biography
Following graduation with an MSc Medical Statistics from Newcastle University in 1987, I worked as a research statistician in the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit, University of Dundee between 1987-1993. After successful award of my PhD, I moved to the Wolfson Unit for Peripheral Vascular Diseases, University of Edinburgh and worked as a senior research fellow for 9 years.
In 2003, I joined the 51cg as medical statistician for the Department of Primary Care. I was made Reader in 2004 and attained Professor in 2006. I held the post of Deputy Director of the Institute of Applied Health Sciences (IAHS) between 2011-2018 and was then appointed Director of the IAHS between 2018-2023.
I have led the University Medical Statistics Team since 2005 and am current lead of the newly amalgamated Biostatistics and Health Data Science group.
Supporting my interest across all aspects of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, I am member of various related School and University committees. In 2020, I co-founded and Chair the Women's Development Network - a 200+ strong, cross University network supporting female/those who identify as female staff and PhD students. In 2024, I was appointed as IAHS EDI Lead.
