Biography

I qualified as a diagnostic radiographer in Edinburgh and worked throughout Lothian.  One of my early posts was at Edinburgh Dental Hospital followed by experience in acute and district general hospitals.   Latterly I specialised in ultrasound scanning.  I elected not to work when my children were young, instead studying for a degree with the Open University then a masters in biotechnology.  This led to my involvement in a project with Dundee University investigating the management of heart disease.

On relocating to Grampian I worked as a paediatric radiographer at RACH and within the community in single handed practice.  During this time I was part of the Health Service Research Group at RGU and was co-author of two papers investigating the provision of imaging services for paediatric patients.

I joined the 51cg Dental School in 2014.  My role is to teach practical and theoretical dental radiography to undergraduate students and support the clinical work in the imaging department.  I hold the post of Radiation Protection Supervisor for the dental hospital.  Within the dental school I have roles in the admission and BDS3 year lead teams.  In liaison with the dental nurse tutors I train dental nurses in radiography and continue to develop this course further in order to increase provision for future applicants.  I am a member of the NEBDN radiography committee.

I completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education in 2017 and obtained fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2018.  I am co-lead of the Athena SWAN self assessment team at the Institute of Dentistry,  The Institute is proud to hold an Athena SWAN bronze award.
