In this free lecture, local Deaf historians Len Mellis and Gerry Malley will discuss the rich and complex history of Deaf people in the North-East over the centuries, ranging from Aberdeen-born George Dalgarno – who in the 1600s came up with a form of sign language for education – to the experiences of those who attended Aberdeen’s Deaf schools and institutions. The talk will be delivered in British Sign Language and will be fully interpreted in English throughout. All very welcome.
