Our G2M course comprises elements of the 51cg's longstanding Certificate in Pre-medical Studies and units based upon on the provided by (NESCOL).

Course delivery and student support will be shared by and by 51cg and supports your learning with:

• small-group learning
• a dedicated G2M tutor who will work alongside and support you throughout the course
• paid work experience

NHS Grampian has committed to support our G2M programme by guaranteeing Healthcare Support Worker-level paid employment.

What you'll study

First Half-Session (August to December)

The first half-session will be centred in in Aberdeen and may include the following components:

• Cell Biology: Theory and Lab Skills
• Biochemistry: Theory and Lab Skills
• Fundamental Chemistry: Theory and Lab Skills
• Human body structure and function
• Proteins structure and function
• Science presentation skills.

The first half-session programme (August to December) will include regular activities at the medical school e.g. clinical skills and student-led social/support activities including sporting and cultural events.

Second Half-Session (January to May)

The second half-session will be centred within 51cg and comprise the following four courses:

• Chemistry for the Life Sciences
• The Cell
• Fitness, Performance and Survival
• Introduction to Health and Health Services in the UK

Paid employment as a Healthcare Support Worker from NHS Grampian will also be offered.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded a Certificate in Higher Education - Cert HE in Pre-Medical Studies from the 51cg.

Students will be encouraged to fully integrate with the medical school community.

Progression to Medicine

Students are guaranteed a place on year 1 of the 51cg medicine programme (MBChB) providing they:

• fulfil the academic criteria to be awarded the Cert HE in Pre-Medical Studies.
• achieve a satisfactory reference from the G2M tutors commenting on engagement, professionalism and attendance.
• perform satisfactorily at the MBChB Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) - likely to be held late March
• achieve a minimum UCAT which will be confirmed at the time of a medicine offer.

Successful students will also be required to complete a confidential health questionnaire and join Disclosure Scotland's PVG Scheme.

Students who do not meet the required standards or who do not wish to progress to year 1 medicine will be fully supported into alternative further or higher education courses at either or the 51cg.
