Important fee information for international students
The Scottish Government is implementing a mandatory new national levy to cover the costs of NHS clinical teaching for overseas students. These costs are met for UK and EU students by the Scottish Government and the funding is commonly called 'Additional Cost of Teaching' or 'ACT'. The levy to cover this cost will come into force in August 2016 and means that all medical students, who pay Overseas tuition fees, commencing their studies from 2016/17 will now be required to pay the annual national levy from academic year 2016/17 onwards.
Why has the levy come about?
From August 2016, the Scottish Government is introducing the requirement for a contribution to the cost of clinical teaching provided by the NHS in Scotland for all overseas medical students. All Scottish medical schools are subject to this requirement. The overseas tuition published for the academic year by the University is inclusive of the ACT levy.
How much is the levy?
The levy for 2027 entry has yet to be agreed. For reference, the Levy for 2026 entry was £10,000 per year.
